Field Theory notes
This “Field Theory” is a working conceptual theory about participation, relationship, perspective, information and feedback. Field theory aims to create a broader relational perspective for an individual to understand self and other, to feel connected within environmental and social situations.
Some basic ideas to understand the theory are:
Participation
Nothing is considered entirely in isolation. Things participate in relationships and environments.
Resonance
Participating things affect one another. Some arrangements reinforce, balance or communicate effectively; others interfere, overwhelm or disconnect.
Scale
Participation can be considered at different scales: body, relationship, groups, species, environment, cosmos, information.
Simultaneity
These aren't sequential stages. Multiple scales of participation are operating at once.
Feedback
Later/wider levels can reorganise earlier/local ones. Information gained through participation feeds back into bodies, choices and relationships.
Perspective
What can be known depends partly upon position within the field. Changing position changes what becomes perceptible.
Working languages developed within this enquiry are:
BoJaRaIKaDaFuBu, BoLego and 0–10 Participation Framework.
BoJaRaIKaDaFuBu
A symbolic language for exploring an energetic system within the individual: body, motivation, resonance, identity, communication, imagination, integration and return to body.
BoLego
A way of exploring how individual parts form relationships and larger structures through gesture, arrangement and resonance.
0–10 Participation Framework
A non-sequential framework for considering participation at different scales, from the individual and relationships to wider systems, collective information and integration back into the body.
